Hi, i'm tomster. I like to make games, as well as learn interesting stuff!
Godot is currently my favorite game engine.
As for game themes, i really like factory automation, cars, road trip, music, space, engineering, circuits, puzzles, generally things that make you think, learn a skill or enjoy your stay.
I started making games back in 2017, but i used C++ and Code::Blocks.
Soon after, that felt unsustainable so i switched to Roblox in 2018. In 2024 i had already made a little over 120 Roblox projects, most of which have never been published.
That was also a pivotal moment when i downloaded Unreal Engine, tried it and disliked it.
Then i downloaded Godot, loved it so much and since then i've been using Godot.
Programming is my most developed skill.
C++ using Code::Blocks during 2017 and 2018. Some say i went the hardcore route by choosing C++ as my first language as a kid. This was also my first programming course and the teacher we had was one of the most memorable people i have ever met! The course rewarded a certificate.
Luau using Roblox Studio during 2018 to 2024. I learned it the hard way, before AI-assisted learning was even a thing. Every bug was thoroughly searched for and if i couldn't find it, i asked about it in the Roblox developer forums. This lead to me properly learning how to code in my own way, and not by following other people's patterns. I still found out that my code corresponded to real patterns by accident. Those patterns must genuinely work well if i happened to come to the same conclusion independently.
JavaScript around 2019 or 2020-ish, can't remember. Our school hired a company named Logiscool who did a two-part JS basics course that rewarded a certificate for every part. Only i finished the course... In addition, around 2023 i went to another course for a 3rd JS basics certificate for some reason. The more advanced courses felt too expensive and it wasn't worth as the course was streamed online. I also attempted another in-person course, but during late 2023 to mid 2025 i couldn't even think about visiting anything other than school due to time constraints, so i had to give up. I have also made a simple static website which taught me a lot about Github, liquid JS, scripted markdown, CSS and HTML.
GDScript using Godot since 2024 to present times. At this point i can't give up on game engines, they are simply too compelling, powerful and cool for building any kind of software, not just games. In addition i've learned a lot more about Github and C++ because i mess with Godot source code.
Python using crappy university computers and Linux python3. This helped me a lot to see an alternative perspective for GDScript, since that language is based on the Python syntax, but is nowhere close in implementation.
C using crappy university computers. This also brought me back to C++.
Lisp. I had to do a presentation on a tech-related topic so i learned a language for it.
Nim in 2026. I absolutely love this one! Such an underrated replacement for C and C++, yet we don't learn it in university. I rewrote my whole C++ space flight simulator game in Nim and it ended up with less lines of code and more features. Nim taught me data-driven development properly and i use this in GDScript a lot now!
I love going out of my comfort zone, trying out and learning new things.
Cars have been a passion for me ever since i was a kid.
I love music, sound, playing piano and anything else that is related. I've even played with the concept of sound affecting the physics of objects. Unfortunately every time i try to compose something in a DAW, it takes me hours to get just a few seconds out.
Modding moddable games, as well as messing with game files. I've done this with Factorio, Minecraft, Luanti, osu!, Cosmoteer and Lumber Tycoon 2. Probably a few more i can't remember.
Messing with open source projects or reading other people's code.
I'm fine playing some horror games, but i hate making it. If you are in a game jam team with me and i sense that we are going to make horror, i'm out. Additionally i perceive horror to be quite different from something that feels off in some way. Like how Minecraft feels empty and creepy sometimes, though it isn't necessarily intentional.
Below you can see some of my games and below that, sorted collections.
